Of Vert & Miles (First Solo Show)

"Of Vert & Miles" — Endurance as Creative Practice
Vert and miles are the language of outdoor athletes: vertical meters climbed and horizontal distances covered. They are units of effort, of time spent in exertion, of a body in honest dialogue with the terrain. For Glend, these numbers are not tallies of his accomplishments; they are the accumulated weight of a life in motion, each digit a measure of the lengths he has chosen to go.

The theme draws from the parallel disciplines of making art and doing outdoor recreation. Both demand repetition without a guarantee of result. Both require recovery as much as resolve. Both are shaped by the sustained choice to return — to the canvas, to the trail, to the practice — even when progress is invisible. The works in this exhibition live in that tension: between stillness and exertion, between
breaking down and pushing through, between the stubborn quiet of the studio and the relentless, breathing world that waits beyond it.

Across the paintings and accompanying merchandise, the theme surfaces through bodies in motion, landscapes encountered and absorbed, the geometry of effort, and the subtle ways nature reorganizes a person. The visual language is Glend's own — figures rendered in transparent washes, neither fully foreground nor background, subject and environment dissolving into each other. Bodies don't move through landscapes here; they become them. Each composition is distinct, yet all are bound by the same insistence: that a person and the world they move through are never truly separate.

LOOKING FOR BERNARDO
ACRYLIC ON CANVAS
36 X 48 INCHES
2026

₱76,000.00  SOLD

Inspired by the story of Bernardo Carpio, a legendary figure in Philippine folklore who is said to cause earthquakes whenever he tries to free himself from the mountains trapping him. I wanted to imagine a hiking adventure that crosses over with Philippine mythology.

The characters are my version of engkantos or ancient spirits hiking together in search of Bernardo, who is believed to be trapped between Mt. Binacayan and Mt. Pamitinan in Montalban. The white mountains in the background reference the legend, as Montalban literally translates to "white mountain." In this version of the story, they're still looking for him.

SEA TO SUMMIT
ACRYLIC ON CANVAS
36 X 36 INCHES
2026

₱45,000.00  SOLD

Inspired by some of my favorite trips like the Pacific Coast Trail, Kibungan Cross Country, and Laiya Trail Run. These are the kinds of adventures where you get to enjoy trails, summits, and eventually rest beside the ocean. For me, that's the perfect balance.
DNF
ACRYLIC ON CANVAS
24 X 24 INCHES
2026

₱27,000.00  SOLD
A DNF means you didn't finish the race. Sometimes it's because of injury, bad luck, or things outside your control. Sometimes it's a choice. A lot of athletes willingly take a DNF to preserve their bodies for a bigger goal ahead. It happens more often than people think, and sometimes it's the smarter decision.

KOM (KING OF THE MOUNTAIN)
ACRYLIC ON CANVAS
36 X 36 INCHES
2026

₱47,000.00  SOLD
KOM is a term used for the fastest climber in cycling and trail running. Instead of focusing on the race itself, I wanted this piece to focus on the relationship between the rider and the mountain. Sometimes your biggest competition isn't other people—it's the climb in front of you.

BANWA

ACRYLIC ON CANVAS
12 X 12 INCHES
2026

₱4,500.00  SOLD
A portrait of a sky god.

A portrait of a valley god.
MOUNTAIN SPIRIT

ACRYLIC ON CANVAS
12 X 12 INCHES
2026

₱4,500.00  SOLD

This piece is my interpretation of a mountain spirit.
LAKPA
ACRYLIC ON CANVAS
36 X 24 INCHES
2026
₱44,000.00  SOLD
Inspired by one of our Sherpas in the Himalayas named Lakpa. Sherpas carry a huge amount of the equipment needed during expeditions, often balancing loads that seem impossible. This piece is a small tribute to the people who help get everyone to the summit.
BICOL EXPRESS

ACRYLIC ON CANVAS
48 X 36 INCHES
2026
₱87,000.00  SOLD
Inspired by a 400+ kilometer ride from Makati to Legazpi that took us three days. The three characters represent three different versions of yourself during a long ride. One is relaxed and cruising through the flat roads. One is completely depleted from exhaustion, represented by the almost empty white silhouette. The last one wears a crown, feeling like a KOM while climbing and descending through the roads of Bicol.

BRICK SESSION
ACRYLIC ON CANVAS
36 X 36 INCHES
2026
₱105,000.00  SOLD
A brick session is a training workout that combines two disciplines, usually bike and run or swim and run. This piece was inspired by moments preparing for triathlon events. The painting shows runners moving through the streets, with a swimming pool in the background depicted almost like a wall of bricks. The central character also has a lower body made up of brick-like forms, as if he's slowly being built through training. If you've ever done a hard brick workout, you know that feeling when you're so tired you can feel your lungs, bones, and every part of your body working. That's probably why the character ended up looking like an X-ray.
DFL (DEAD F***ING LAST)
ACRYLIC ON CANVAS
24 X 24 INCHES
2026

₱23,000.00  SOLD
DFL is the term for the last person to cross the finish line in an ultra. The thing is, they're celebrated too. Finishing is finishing. Doesn't matter if you're first or last—the goal is to make it to the end.
FETCHING WATER IN
PANNA MEENA KA KUND

GICLÉE PRINT ON HAHNEMÜHLE PHOTO RAG
IMAGE: 16 X 16 INCHES
FRAMED: 22.5 X 22.5 INCHES

Framing/Matting Details: Archival matting and UV-protective glass

2023

₱7,500.00  SOLD

Inspired by a visit to Panna Meena Ka Kund in India, a giant stepwell that almost looks like an inverted pyramid. I used the structure as the backdrop and imagined a local woman fetching water within the space.
HANUMAN IN JODHPUR

GICLÉE PRINT ON HAHNEMÜHLE PHOTO RAG
IMAGE: 16 X 16 INCHES
FRAMED: 22.5 X 22.5 INCHES

Framing/Matting Details: Archival matting and UV-protective glass

2023

₱7,500.00
I love drawing monkeys. That’s why, when I got a book about Ramayana while visiting Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur, I decided to create my own version of the Hanuman Deity.

SABI MO BANAYAD
ACRYLIC ON CANVAS
36 X 24 INCHES
2026

₱32,000.00  SOLD
A phrase every cyclist and hiker has probably heard before: “Banayad lang yan.” Usually it isn't. I wanted to poke fun at that familiar budol because I've fallen for it more times than I can count. Inspired by long rides to Baguio and Pagudpud, and routes like Sampaloc-Tagaytay Road and RevPal, where we eventually found ourselves questioning whether to keep pushing, head home, or just walk the bike the rest of the way. Sometimes I'm the victim of the budol. Minsan ako rin yung nambubudol.
FIRST ULTRA

ACRYLIC ON CANVAS
48 X 36 INCHES
2026
₱78,000.00
Inspired by one of our first ultra-distance runs from Manila to Tagaytay. No race. No event. Just pure baliwan. Tagaytay is a place I'm familiar with, and the roads leading there are routes I've driven many times before. But running them gave me a completely different perspective. You notice details you'd normally miss, and somehow the roads feel much longer when you're covering them on foot.
FREE BANANA
ACRYLIC ON CANVAS
36 X 24 INCHES
2026

₱36,200.00  SOLD
Just a trail runner enjoying a free banana.
COMPANION EMBLEMS (15 PCS)
ACRYLIC ON CANVAS
5 x 5 INCHES
2026

Inspired by the badges you earn in sports and fitness apps, these companion emblems act as small markers of effort, adventure, and progress. I like to think of them as earned achievements for both the characters in the paintings and the paintings themselves.
