Midnight Surfers is a series of illustration inspired by an outreach activity we did in Cabangan, Zambales in 2023. As part of the activity, we asked students to doodle on paper. I later scanned their drawings and turned them into patterns, and embed them on the surfboards, adding a sense of childhohod nostaalgia and rawness to the work.
The title comes from the idea of late-night internet surfing to meet deadlines or get things done. I played with that concept and reimagined it as actual surfing—quiet, physical and done outdoors at midnight, something I rarely see in real life.
