Of Vert & Miles—Volume III
In Between Deadlines: Of Vert & Miles is an illustration series inspired by my appreciation for outdoor recreation—trail runs, mountain hikes, and long rides that break up the rhythm of urban living and freelance work. The collection explores a sense of adventure and the contrast between movement and stillness.

Bike Set-up: @jilsontiu’s surly straggler 🐌

Earlier this year, I got into a bike crash incident while riding my @somafab Double Cross somewhere in Biñan. The frameset bent, the wheelset got busted, and I learned the hard way that the emergency alert feature of my watch really works?! I had to quickly turn it off to stop it from repeatedly notifying my wife and my mom that I’d gotten into an accident.

A week later, I brought the frameset to Mang Avelino of Ave Maldea, the local bike frame whisperer. He restored it by changing the tubes using a Columbus life steel, making it as light and as clean as the original double-cross.

Then, @budoldaddyph (budolbuddy) gave it a new life with a clean rebuild. I chose not to repaint it back to its original color because i find the welding texture unique, and a nice way to preserve the story. The colorway inspo stayed the same. sapin-sapin, because why not ride something that looks like dessert, right?

Salamat sa solid build, Marlowe!

This marks the third iteration of this bike. It’s been through a crash, but it still rides better than I dance at parties.
